Our first Community Care Day was awesome! BIG thanks to the volunteers, vendors and folks that showed up to be a part of it. BIG thanks to everyone that supports The RBCC for making this work possible. We served over 70 people, delivered herbal medicine, administered vaccines, did emotional healing and community building work, gave out over $1,500 to those in need, and had a great time. LOVE.
Here are the top three supplies folks needed and some thoughts:
1) Nutrient dense food- All the fresh fruits and vegetables we purchased went out the door fast. We all know food is expensive. Now imagine you are unhoused or living in an emergency motel situation and have multiple mouths to feed. Our people need food. For this reason, we humbly ask you to contribute to The RBCC with cash donations or gift cards to local grocery stores.
2) Hygiene products- people need to be clean and they will sacrifice hygiene when it’s a matter of food/shelter versus anything else.
3) Cleaning supplies- People need to be able to keep their spaces healthy. Folks also took fans and dehumidifiers. There is still harmful moisture in our community. There is no individual wellness without environmental wellness.
THE STORIES: People are still hurting, they still need help, they still feel abandoned, abused, neglected, they still work, they still take care of family and friends and strangers in similar situations, they still cry, and WE STILL FOUND LOVE waiting for us at the end of a conversation. These are tough people with little interest in receiving help, despite their great need. They are familiar with vulnerability in ways many folks have no clue about. Our. Work. As. A. Community. Is. Ongoing. Please don’t stop. Don’t stop caring and trying and supporting and loving.
Thank you all so much, we love you, and we hope to see you next CC Day: Sunday, October 15th.
